Chamomile
The Roman is well-known for its strong soothing effect on mind and body and is more expensive but superior to the Moroc. It is excellent for protecting dry skin and can be used to treat the nervous system, headaches, and menstrual disorders and is good for digestion, sore throat, sunburns and insomnia. It is a comforting oil during high pollen count and its flowers soften and lighten hair.

German chamomile or blue chamomile has a blue color from azulene, which is formed during the distillation of the oil and is an absolute.

The odor is sweet and adds a warm, long-lasting undertone in perfumes. It is gentle, soothing and calming and induces restful sleep and is also a powerful immune system stimulant. German Chamomile is particularly good for allergies, helping not only to relieve the immediate symptoms, but other problems caused indirectly, such as loss of appetite, stress, and aches and pains.

All the chamomiles are used in massage oils and herbal mixtures.

Chamomile is said to be calming without depressing and is used for treating anger.

Properties: Anti-inflammatory, Analgesic, Antibacterial, Antiseptic, Digestive Stimulant

Uses: For treating Acne, Blisters, Boils, Colitis, Depression, Digestive Problems, Flatulence, Gout, Headaches, Indigestion, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Neuralgia, Nervous Tension, (anxiety, fear), Rheumatism and Skin Conditions like dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis.

Chamomile blends well with Lavender, Bergamot, Jasmine, Neroli, and Clary Sage.

A few common blends:

For digestion, make a lotion using a combination of 4 drops Lavender, 3 drops Bergamot, 2 drops Peppermint, 2 drops Basil, and 1 drop Chamomile tea in a small amber bottle. Add a carrier of 1 T. vegetable oil or unscented lotion. Use this lotion 1/2 hour before meals by applying to the stomach and back of hands. Use sparingly, as this is a concentrated blend. Inhale as needed from back of hands.

To treat fungal infections add Chamomile, Tea Tree, Fennel, Geranium, Lavender (without exceeding 6 drops total of essential oils) to the Bad Breath Mouthwash recipe to prevent mouth sores and infections.

Contraindications: May cause skin irritation. Not to be used in early pregnancy.
