An eye cream is quite safe to use near your eyes. This can be verified with the label on the eye cream quoting that the cream matches the pH level of your tears. No fragrance is there on an usual Eye creams and they also tend to be more emollient than regular moisturizers.

Types of Eye Cream
There are 3 types of Eye Cream:

  • Creams designed to enhance the appearance of your eyes during the day. Such types of creams are referred as 'Day Cream'. They usually reduce the appearance of dark circles and puffiness.
  • Creams designed to help repair and prevent further damage to your skin. Such types of creams are referred as 'Night Cream'. They usually contains ingredients like Alpha hydroxy acid and retinol.
  • Creams providing extra moisture.Such types of creams are referred as 'Non-Specific Cream'.
Things to Look While Buying Eye Cream
When selecting an eye cream for yourself, look for darkness-inhibiting ingredients and consider the potency and type of the firming ingredient.

Common firming ingredients are:
1. Alcohol and Caffeine temporarily dehydrates the skin, making it appearing more taut
2. Alpha-hydroxy acids, vitamin C , retinol and copper work under the skin to stimulate collagen growth.

Common darkness-inhibiting ingredients are:
1. Vitamin K : has been shown to inhibit bruising. Researchers believe vitamin k helps to counteract dark shadows caused by too much blood flow and minor bruising under eyes.
2. Kojic acid and Hydroquinone. Kojic acid and hydroquinone are skin-lightening agents, often found in bleaching and age-spot creams.
