Getting Your Child Go To Sleep Early
Remember the old saying regarding going to bed and getting out of it early? Well the news is that it still holds a lot of water. The problem is that the difficulty faced in following it is also the same that your parents faced years ago - to put your 'energetic', ever 'wanting to play' child to sleep.
When it comes to deciding your child's time to rest, it should be totally your call. No matter how much your child wants to continue playing, if you think it should be his time to take rest then so be it. The thing which you can keep in mind is that instead of just interrupting him abruptly and forcing him to sleep, you can give him some time to slow down and get prepared to go to sleep.
You also need to remember that as your child grows his sleep hours will reduce. Also that it is not necessary that two kids of the same age require the same amount of sleep.
To simplify the going to bed time, you can create a bed time ritual that your child enjoys. Like reading a story or poem, playing a particular game, singing or simply praying. You can also treat that time as a talk time with your child when you share your day with him and he shares his.
Making him exercise during the day would help him sleep better. Also, you can limit his day time naps to let him have a peaceful and timely night's sleep.
Timely and regular bed time habits will not only bring physical benefits to your child but also bring him close to you if you follow your bedtime rituals like talking, reading etc together.
