Divine taste of homemade French onion soup with ingredients like best margarine, brown stock, French bread and cheddar cheese.

French Onion Soup Recipe

Ingredients:
1 lb. Onions
3 oz. Best margarine
1 tblsp flour
3 pints brown stock or dissolved beef bouillon cubes
salt and black pepper
French bread cut into 3/4" slices
6 oz. Cheddar cheese

How to make {actual-title}:
  • Slice onions thinly; heat margarine in soup pan and fry onions until golden.
  • Sprinkle in the flour and stir until smooth and slightly browned.
  • Add stock or bouillon slowly, stirring con-pepper.
  • Simmer 15 minutes.
  • Allow three slices French bread per person.
  • Cover each slice with thinly sliced cheese.
  • pour soup into a wide earthenware dish.
  • Float the cheese-covered slices on top.
  • Cover dish and leave in warm place for 5 minutes.
  • Place uncovered dish under red hot grill, not too near the heat, until cheese browns slightly.
