SUN AND SKIN

Sun is the skin's greatest enemy. It can penetrate into the skin, affecting not only the surface but also living tissues of the lower layer. A few days of intense exposure to sun led to accelerated aging of the skin. From this aspect, the fair skin is at disadvantage. Darker the skin, more resistive it is to the harsh effects of the sun. But the dark skins are not immune to it. Melanin, a pigment found in the skin, protects the skin against the sunrays. And dark skin contains more of this pigment.

Sunrays dehydrate the skin and make it dry rough and wrinkled, due to this; pigmented spots and patches appear on the skin. This results in the expansion of the blood vessels and hence the skin looks flushed and red after sun-exposure and as a result, skin gradually tans. The supporting fibres of the skin also get damaged and all this leds to premature ageing. Hence, long exposure of the skin to the sunrays should be avoided and an effective sunscreen should be used that blocks the harmful part of the sunrays and also prevent the loss of moisture from the skin. Intensive moisturization techniques and products that help to soothe and revitalize the skin also protect the skin against the sunrays.

Sun exposure causes definite changes in the skin and can even predispose it to cancer, so great care should be taken to protect the skin against the harmful effects of the sunrays. So one should resort to daily skin care otherwise the problem would get aggravated.
